Real Madrid vs PSG Champions League match preview

Real Madrid receives  Paris Saint-Germain to the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday looking for revenge after a Champions League humbling.

A 3-0 loss at Parc des Princes in September saw Zinedine Zidane under huge pressure, especially as the hosts were without their complete first-choice front line of Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe.

Those three are back – and Mauro Icardi has been impressing in their absence – but Real Madrid will not want to head into the final matchday needing a result versus Club Brugge to reach the knockout stages.

Zidane seems to have his squad back under control after a shaky start to the season so will fancy their opportunity in front of their own fans. Real Madrid are in far better shape than two months ago when they went down so heavily at Parc des Princes and with Group A all but decided, we should see a more even contest.

Eden Hazard will be keen to impress against a team he has regularly rejected advances from in recent seasons.

Filling the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema scored 30 goals across all competitions last season and that resurgence hasn’t halted in 2019/20, with the Frenchman netting 16 times in 21 appearances already.

Furthermore, Benzema has provided a further six assists across La Liga and Champions League play and has become Zinedine Zidane’s go-to man in the attacking third.

There have been 10  previous meetings between the two sides, with both teams sharing four victories apiece.

PSG brushed Los Blancos aside in September as Angel Di Maria scored twice versus his former team in a 3-0 victory. Gareth Bale came on against Real Sociedad so is fit, though if Zinedine Zidane would start him versus PSG is a different matter. James Rodriguez remains out, along with Nacho, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez.

PSG welcomed Neymar and Kylian Mbappe back for Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Lille and both should start on Tuesday.
