Liverpool join race for Bayern’s Alaba

Liverpool are one of five clubs — including Real Madrid — who have been in communication with David Alaba’s agent over a potential deal for the Bayern Munich star, according to Fabrizio Romano.

While it’s still highly likely that Real Madrid are the frontrunners in the race to secure his signature, it’s certainly worth noting that the Reds have thrown their name in the hat with Jurgen Klopp being well aware of what he brings to the table.

The transfer window is now open in most leagues across the world, and speculation is heating up about potential deals.

The 19-year-old, who is the cousin of former Manchester United star Nani, will see his contract come to an end with the Foxes during the summer.

Regardless of who is leading the way, it’s all but for sure Alaba won’t be staying in Munich beyond the summer.
A number of clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with Alaba.

Last week, El Confidential reported that Madrid president Florentino Perez has rejected the terms presented by Alaba’s agent, Pini Zahavi, and will not consider making an offer unless he drops his asking price.

Los Blancos had initially offered Alaba a lucrative four-year deal that would see him earn nearly £9m a season, but the report claims the club aren’t willing to give in to his wage demands.

Jurgen Klopp’s squad is presently thin in the defensive area, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez ruled out long-term, while Joel Matip is also currently sidelined.

Midfield duo Fabinho and Jordan Henderson played in defense in the 1-0 loss to Southampton on Monday night, and the Reds might consider bringing in reinforcements during the January window.

Bringing Alaba in would greatly boost Klopp’s side, especially considering his ability to seamlessly switch between playing in the defense and the midfield.

Former Bayern player Thiago Alcantara joined Liverpool in the summer on a four-year deal for £20 million, and the Spanish midfielder could help convince Alaba about a move to Anfield.
