Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scores hat-trick on full LaLiga debut for Barcelona

The striker, who joined the club in January from Arsenal, seemed back to his old self as he spearheaded a victory that stretched Barca’s undefeated league run to nine games.

Aubameyang made an instant impact for his new club on his first LaLiga start, netting two first-half goals on Sunday at the Mestalla.

He completed his hat-trick in the second-half, but didn’t know much about it as Pedri’s stunning long-range strike was retrospectively given to Aubameyang as it went in off the striker’s back.

It’s a brilliant start for Barcelona’s new No.25, who has almost matched his Arsenal goalscoring tally for the season after just three matches in Spain.

In 14 Premier League appearances before his Emirates Stadium departure, the former Gunners no.14 only scored four goals.

Now, in two substitute appearances in LaLiga and now a first start, the Gabon international only needs to find the net once more to equaling that tally.

With the game scoreless at the time, Aubameyang proved to be the man to break the deadlock after racing onto a superb long-range pass from left-back Jordi Alba.

One-on-one, he showed no signs of rustiness or nerves, and slotted the ball into the top right corner of the goal.

Having now found the net in Spain, Aubameyang became the fourth player in the 21st Century to score in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and LaLiga, Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Saint-Etienne and now Barcelona, respectively.

Former Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, ex-Man City forward Stevan Jovetic, and former Everton and Real Madrid star, James Rodriguez are the others, according to statisticians Opta.

Just as Aubameyang thought his afternoon could not get any better, it did when he doubled his tally 15 minutes later.

A far simpler strike, he was on hand to tap the ball into an empty net after Gavi sent a low ball across the penalty area.

It was a big victory for Barcelona, with teenage star Pedri appearing to wrap up the 4-1 triumph with a sensational first-time hit from outside the box.

It was a lovely strike from the 19-year-old, who has been hailed by manager Xavi as the world’s most talented player.

Unfortunately for the youngster, Aubameyang’s afternoon got even better as officials awarded the goal.

Many doubted Barcelona and their January deal to sign a player who looked that his best days were long past him.

But it could prove to be an inspired one with Aubameyang fired up and hungry following his move to Spain, as Barcelona look to climb the table and secure a place for next season’s Champions League.

And was delighted with his shift on Sunday, telling Barcelona fans he hopes to score many more hat-tricks as he posed with the match ball signed by his teammates.
